Friday,September 30 –Debert Hospitality Centre

5:00- Registration begins (follow the signs to the Gunner Room)

5:30-6:15 Annual General Meeting of the Nova Scotia Mycological Society – Please attend. We will be electing Directors and discussing new activities for the Society. (Location will be posted)

7:00 Registration ends

7:00-8:00 Mushroom Cook-off Competition (Douglas Dining Room and Pilot Patio)

7:00- Reception in the Gunner Room (cash bar available)

Saturday,October 1 – The Foray (RAIN OR SHINE!)

7:00-8:30 Breakfast / Registration (Douglas Dining Room,DHC)

8:30-9:30 Orientation to the Foray (Hurricane Conference Room)
• Mushroom Identification (Dr. Gavin Kernaghan and Dr. David Boyle)
- 30 minutes
• Identifying Trees (Bruce Stewart,DNR) – 15 minutes
• The Trails and the Foray Process (Bruce Stewart) – 15 minutes

9:30-10:00 Pack-your-own-lunch (Douglas Dining Room)
Organize groups and depart for the trails

10:00-3:00 Field forays on various trails

3:00-6:00 Sorting and identification of collected mushrooms (Hurricane and Mesquito Conference Rooms,Keystone Patio) – nutrition break provided

6:30-9:00 3-course dinner (Douglas Dining Room)
Guest Speaker – Dr. Greg Thorn “Carnivorous Mushrooms”

9:00- Reception (Gunner Room)

Sunday,October 2 – The Workshops

7:00-9:00 Breakfast

9:00-12:00 Choice of the following workshops (nutrition break provided mid-morning)
• Growing Mushrooms at Home
• Cooking with Mushrooms
• “Pick for the Pot” outdoor edible mushroom quest
• Mushrooms as Fabric Dye
• Trees,lichens and mosses:what do they have to do with mushrooms?
• Photographing Nature

Noon Wrap up

12:30-2:00 Table Sessions – Tour the identification table with a mycologist

The Foray Package


Registration for the Foray:$175
We have a Student Rate:$150 (valid student identification card must be shown on arrival)

Price includes ALL of the following:the field forays with mycologists and trail experts,light snacks at the Friday night reception,breakfast and nutrition breaks both days,lunch on Saturday,3-course banquet Saturday night,keynote speaker Saturday night,your choice of workshop on Sunday,and membership in the Nova Scotia Mycological Society along with all taxes and gratuities.

We are also booking accommodations at the Debert Hospitality Center:

  • Room with 1 double bed @ $51.75 per night (incl. taxes)
  • Room with 2 single beds @ $69.00 per night (incl. taxes)

If you wish to room with someone,please be sure that only one of you reserves and pays for a room.

It is important to note that the rooms at the Debert Hospitality Center are arranged in groups of 4,6 or 10 with each section sharing a common sitting room and kitchenette. All sections have full bathrooms (1 shared between 2 bedrooms) and a laundry room . Please go to the Debert Hospitality Center website (www.debertcentre.ca) to view the facilities. All guests staying on site will have access to the workout facility and the games room.
